Firestop Violations That You Have to Be Sure to Avoid

Here are some firestop violations that you should avoid.

Firestop is an important part of any construction building. Just be careful, though, because there are plenty of violations that you want to prevent from happening. If you follow the right steps, your building will have decent protection to defend against fires. Now, even with firestop, you’ll need to take extra precautions. You can’t ignore the importance of fire alarm systems and fire extinguishers just because you have firestop. However, firestop is always helpful to have. Here are some firestop violations that you should avoid.

Not Reviewing Any Plans

Before you get any work started, you have to get your plans both reviewed and approved. You even have to get plans reviewed during the construction process before you’re allowed to use them on the construction site.

Any plan that’s presented has to be able to confirm the installation process will stay in compliance with all of the codes in place. Your plans have to include listing and testing systems for all of your applications. If you don’t, safety inspections will end up being tougher and more tedious than they otherwise would be.

Bad Wall Ratings

Firestop is crucial because it stops fires from spreading into different rooms throughout a building. It also helps keep fires contained so that they aren’t able to get out of control. You have to have wall ratings that are good enough for you to pass your inspections. Otherwise, it will result in a violation.

Walls Aren’t Stopped Entirely

Your walls will have to be sufficiently protected against smoke and fire damage. You’ll need to have bottom-of-wall and head-of-wall joints in whatever building schematics you have.

You Don’t Use the Proper Fasteners

Something else you’ll have to keep in mind is the type of fasteners being used in the installation. This could sound a little unusual, but there are a few firestop materials that should be laid in layers that are more thin than others. The reason is because these materials will expand as they get more exposed to heat. These types of materials are helpful for protecting items capable of being either warped, melted, or burned as a result of exposure to fire, light, and heat.
