Benefits of GPR Over X-Ray

GPR

There are several advantages to using GPR instead of X-Ray technology.

When most people think of getting an X-Ray, they think about hospitals, fractures, and examination rooms. On the other hand, ground penetrating radar, otherwise known as GPR, is usually associated with construction work. What do these two technologies have in common? They are both used to see through the surface. Additionally, X-Rays are also used for industrial products in addition to their medical use. Professionals find defects and evaluate circuit boards with X-Ray technology. When it comes to working with concrete structures, GPR still remains the standard. Check out the benefits of GPR over X-Ray technology.

Safety

To use X-Ray technology, the professionals using the equipment must wear personal protective equipment so as not to expose themselves to radiation. It’s also necessary to have at least a 100-foot clearance in the scanning. None of that is necessary with GPR technology. It’s must safer for operators, which means that it won’t disrupt any surrounding businesses.

Cost Effective

It takes many hours to set up and scan for a location using an X-Ray. With ground penetrating radar, you can complete the entire process in a matter of an hour or less. This saves time and money. In addition, X-Ray technology requires off-site processing and development while GPR technology can result in real-time inspections. This allows crews to get onto the next steps of the project in a much quicker fashion – steps like saw cutting or core drilling.

Accuracy and Versatility

GPR equipment uses a wider range of antenna frequencies, making it possible to reach a great penetration depth and greater versatility. Furthermore, you can achieve a depth/thickness estimation of concrete structures with GPR technology, which X-Rays typically cannot produce at all.

GPR Services from Concrete Visions

Concrete Visions has over 12 years of experience and expertise in concrete scanning and we know how to detect any problems lurking beneath the surface. We use ground penetrating radar accurately and expertly and are familiar with many other methods that can be used when appropriate like concrete x-ray and electromagnetic conductivity. We are also very familiar with the latest construction safety techniques and train all of our workers to do their work quickly, accurately, and safely.  If you would like to learn more about how we can help you, give us a call at (410) 766-2210 or visit us online.
