As many construction projects involve either concrete cutting or concrete drilling amongst their steps, it is important to approach it with the right care and knowhow. While concrete cutting especially may seem like a no brainer to outsiders, there are a number of things to keep in mind if order to carry out successful projects safely. Read on to learn more about taking on concrete cutting and concrete drilling safely.
Dust Control
It is very important to know that concrete dust is potentially damaging to your health. If exposed to it, is can damage your lungs and sinuses. This dust can also be corrosive and abrasive enough to damage any surrounding finish. When cutting concrete with either a saw, drill, or core boring bit dust control is imperative. The two most common dust control methods are utilizing either wet cutting or pneumatic devices.
Safety When Using Electric Powered Tools
When a diamond cutting blade or other abrasive disk cutting device, like a concrete saw, is in use, the water lubricates and cools the cutting tools as well as providing a measure of safety. However, spillage of the cooling water must be taken into consideration on the surface that is being cut. It is necessary for drainage to be provided. Drainage must be provided using a vacuum system to prevent the water from spreading. Using electric powered tools in a puddle of water can be fatal if proper precautions are not taken.
Extra Precautions Are Necessary When Using A Core Drilling Machine
Many core drilling machines rely on suction to keep the base in place during any drilling operation. The friction of the base suctioned against the floor is what creates resistance to motion and the stability of the machine. However, this vacuum seal is not wholly reliable and can potentially fail during drilling operations. The operator must be prepared for this and position their body accordingly.
